Lupita (name changed due to safety concerns) is a young widow with 5 children from southern Mexico, in one of the states controlled by organized crime. Her husband was killed in front of her young children when he refused to work for one of the cartels who controlled their village.
She is a brave woman, who had to hide her toddler under the bed so he would not be harmed by the cartel members who shot her husband. Lupita dared to ask for a coffin for her husband to be buried with dignity and this simple act of courage put her in the ‘black list’ to be eliminated.
She fled with her children and only their clothes on their back.
She has been waiting at the Matamoros Refugee Camp for almost a year and a half.
Lupita’s children are traumatized. She is doing her best to keep her family together but she was falling apart this week. She is in close contact with Alma Ruth for prayer and support, as she struggles to keep her children fed and clothed.
With your valuable support, Practice Mercy has been providing shoes for her and her children, clothing, diapers, vitamins, blankets, jackets and whatever else we can to make Lupita’s life a bit better.
Nevertheless, this week was too much for Lupita. She contacted Alma Ruth to inform her that she was ready to jump into the river with her children with the hopes to make it to the United States soil, without paying the local cartel for crossing the Rio Grande River. This means almost certain death.
Alma Ruth prayed with her and quickly contacted one of her board members, who knows Lupita and her children, for advice and prayer. Together, they managed to talk Lupita out of that idea and God provided enough funding to keep her and her children fed and pay for her rent for the next 3 months, so she can breath until we know more about the coming changes in immigration policies.
Your support gives us the much needed sustainability to keep saving these women’s lives.
